Geeks..

11 10 2007

CBC’s Marketplace had a disturbing documentary on computer technicians and their ability (or inability) to diagnose and fix your computer problems. Companies like Nerds on Site, or Geek Squad make a significant amount of money helping people with their computers; however, this documentary shows some curious behaviour. Technicians overcharge for parts, diagnose problems incorrectly, search your hard drive for pornography, snoop in personal data, and even download that personal data without permission. With technicians like these ones, we might almost be better leaving the spyware on our computers.

The only reason anyone should be involved with Geek Squad is extended warranties: it maybe a ripoff, but from what I understand its not hard to rip them off and get a new computer!
